In Shakespeare’s play, the soothsayer tells Julius Caesar “beware the ides of March”, words that have been immortalised by the public and can be heard till this day on 15 March. The word “ides” for Romans was synonymous with a full moon, which would generally fall on the 13th or 15th of a month. The term, “ides of March” means nothing other than the 15th of March. However, with its tainted history and Shakespearian twist, the ides of March now bears ominous meaning.
